Mold cleanup keeping suburban Chicago school closed

CALUMET CITY, Ill. (AP) - Officials are keeping a suburban Chicago school closed while crews work to cleanup mold found inside the building.

Wentworth Junior High School in the southern suburb of Calumet City was kept closed for a second day on Wednesday. The school district also shut down its elementary and intermediate schools on Tuesday's scheduled first day of classes, but opened those buildings Wednesday.

District superintendent Troy Paraday says officials are taking the matter very seriously and are committed to giving students a safe learning environment.

The district didn't immediately say how long the cleanup work could take or when the school with grades 6-8 would reopen.
