Boy, 7, dies after being pulled from central Illinois lake

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A 7-year-old boy died after he was pulled from Lake Catatoga in central Illinois.

The Springfield State Journal-Register reports that family members were performing CPR when Macoupin County sheriff's deputies arrived at the lake Friday morning.

Deputies and paramedics took over life-saving efforts and the child was taken to a hospital in Carlinville, where he regained a pulse after an hour of CPR.

He was then transported by helicopter to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, where he died early Friday evening.

The child's name has not been released because Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards said Saturday that she had not been able to reach family members.

Authorities are investigating.
