Chicago police officer injured while foiling carjacking

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say an off-duty officer was slightly injured during an attempted carjacking in the city's Chatham neighborhood.

Police say the officer opened fire on the suspected carjacker and was able to disarm the man during the subsequent struggle before the man fled.

The suspect was not struck as he fled through an alley. The firearm was recovered.

Police say the officer suffered an injury to his hand and was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
