Drug-sniffing dogs sweep Glenbard South 'without incident'

DuPage County sheriff's deputies and police dogs found no contraband or weapons during a recent sweep of lockers and classrooms at Glenbard South High School, authorities said Wednesday.

Two teams from the sheriff's office and another two from the U.S. Marshals Service searched hundreds of lockers during the annual lockdown drill Tuesday at the school near Glen Ellyn. Drug-sniffing dogs also searched classrooms after students were moved to other areas of the campus.

School administrators asked to work with the sheriff's office to plan and stage the roughly 20-minute sweep.

"Glenbard South is thankful for our partnership with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office," Principal Sandra Coughlin said in a statement. "It's important we conduct these drills to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Today's practice was successful and without incident."
