Juventus-Atalanta Serie A game postponed due to snow

TURIN, Italy (AP) - Snowfall has led to the postponement of the Serie A match between six-time defending champion Juventus and Atalanta.

Fans filled the Allianz Stadium in northern Italy shortly before the scheduled 1700 GMT kickoff Sunday but, when the referee could not properly roll the ball on the snow-covered pitch, the game was quickly called off.

Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon and Atalanta counterpart Rafael Toloi appeared to agree with the decision.

The league did not immediately announce a new date for the match, but it likely won't be played until after Juventus' Champions League second-leg game at Tottenham on March 7. The first leg ended 2-2.

The postponement risks dropping Juventus further behind Serie A leader Napoli, which plays at Cagliari on Monday. Napoli is one point ahead of Juventus and both sides have won nine straight.

Juventus and Atalanta are also scheduled to play Wednesday at the same stadium in Turin in the second leg of the Italian Cup semifinals. Juventus won the first leg 1-0.
