Endorsement: Idstein for GOP in state House Dist. 62

Republican voters in the Illinois House 62nd District will choose between two candidates in the March primary. Ken Idstein and Adam Solano are vying for the Republican nomination to challenge Rep. Sam Yingling in November.

Idstein, a member of the Grayslake village planning and zoning commission for 12 years, supports term limits for leadership in the legislature, rolling back the income tax increase and reforming workers' comp. A small-business owner, he believes the budget process should be broken down into smaller pieces of legislation to avoid gridlock that has plagued the General Assembly. Solano, also from Grayslake, is a small-business owner and a newcomer to the political scene. A financial adviser, Solano would bring a knowledgeable voice to any debate about fixing the public employee pension system.

Representing a district that sits on the Wisconsin border, both candidates are mindful of stopping the population migration out of Illinois by working to hold the line on property taxes. Both candidates also are passionate about working to change the atmosphere of gridlock in Springfield and could serve voters in the 62nd District well. We are swayed by the depth of Idstein's direct experience with local government and he gets our endorsement.
