Minnesota State, Hoffner agree on 5-year contract extension

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota State University and football coach Todd Hoffner have reached agreement on a new five-year contract extension.

The school announced the agreement Tuesday. The deal takes effect July 1, 2018, and replaces Hoffner's four-year contract that expires at the end of June. No other terms were available.

Hoffner has guided the Mavericks to a 79-20 record in his eight years along the sidelines. Under Hoffner, Minnesota State has won four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships and six NSIC South Division titles.

Hoffner returned to Mankato State in 2014 after an arbitrator ruled he was wrongfully terminated. He sued to get his job back after being forced out initially by MSU for what were deemed inappropriate pictures of his children on his university-issued cellphone.
