Is there a particular issue that motivates you? If so, what? What specific professional qualifications do you possess that would make you excel in this office?I have been a long-time advocate for water conservation, and have dedicated the last decade of my life to public service. I am passionate about the mission of MWRD and look forward to serving on the Board.If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of any important initiatives you've led. If you are a challenger, what would you bring to the board and what would your priority be?I belive the District is a very well run agency that is in good financial condiation. MWRD is one of the only agencies with a AAA bond rating and its pension issue was resolved with union support. The District continues to make great progress on stormwater management and resource recovery. The MWRD Board has done a good job of adopting Ã#402;â#8364;#8482;greenÃ#402;â#8364;#339; infrastructure projects, while working to control the stormwater overflow problems. However, it's obvious after every heavy rain that more work needs to be done.Due to the old infrastructure of a combined sewage system, raw sewage may be released into rivers and the lake during a heavy rain. While efforts such as rain barrels are important, does the district have any long-term plans to address the underlying infrastructure issue?I wouldÃ#402;Å#160;supportÃ#402;Å#160;any efforts or strategies to expedite the completion of Phase II of the McCook Reservoir.Ã#402;Å#160; Securing federal funding for Phase II of McCook is essential.Ã#402;Å#160; I support the current strategy of MWRD directly receiving funds to complete this project instead of having the funds and work going through the Army Corp of Engineers that has not proven efficient or cost effective.Ã#402;Å#160; I am open to any strategies that will help reduce flooding and combined sewer overflows.For years, not one suburban Republican has been elected to the board. Should the board be elected by regional districts?No.How do you rate the MWRD on transparency and the public's access to records? If you consider it adequate, please explain why. If you think improvements are needed, please describe them and why they are importantI support the current efforts to establish an Inspector General to review the District's effectiveness and efficiency.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Stopping the proliferation of invasive species, developing wastewater into a renewable energy source, and encouraging investment in local engineering firms with MWRD contracting.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Barack ObamaWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Everything is cyclical. Nothing is permanent.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I believe that everything works out the way it's supposed to in the end so I don't think I would wish for a do-over.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?My favorite subject in school was English and reading. It has certainly helped me in life, reading everything from historical to fiction to non-fiction.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Treat others the way you want to be treated.
