Vigo coroner: Body in submerged SUV that of missing woman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A western Indiana coroner says a body found in a submerged SUV was that of a woman who hadn't been seen in nearly two months.

Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos said Monday that DNA tests established the woman found in the car was 77-year-old Alice Oswald of Terre Haute. The car was recovered from a remote pond in eastern Vigo County on Jan. 5.

When the SUV was pulled from the pond, police said evidence in the vehicle led them to believe the woman found inside hadn't driven herself into the pond, and that the Oswald case would continue to be investigated as a homicide.

Oswald was last seen Nov. 9 leaving a heating and cooling business to meet a worker at one of her rental properties.
