Early morning fire in suburban Chicago kills 2

ADDISON, Ill. (AP) - An elderly couple was killed when fire swept through their suburban Chicago home.

Authorities in Addison say they have yet to determine what caused the fire early Monday that was discovered by a passing truck driver who alerted the Addison Fire Protection District.

Deputy Fire Chief Scott Walker said they arrived minutes later and found flames shooting from the single-story structure, which had no working smoke detectors.

Walker said the blaze appeared to start in a kitchen area. The fire caused the roof of the home to collapse. Rescue teams found the victims in a bedroom.

Officials refused to release the victims' names until they are positively identified and family members are notified.
