Money-seeking hackers hit northeast Indiana health network

DECATUR, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana health network has become the latest in the state targeted by money-seeking computer hackers.

Hackers infiltrated some of the Adams Health Network's computer servers last week by encrypting data and demanding a ransom for releasing those files.

WANE-TV reports the health network hasn't disclosed the requested ransom's sum or whether it paid the amount demanded.

The network operates Adams Memorial Hospital in the city of Decatur near Fort Wayne and has medical offices in Decatur, Monroe, Berne and Geneva.

The network said in a statement that it believes no patient files were accessed by the hackers, but it's still assessing "the severity of the situation."

Central Indiana's Hancock Health network says it paid hackers a $55,000 ransom last week to regain access to its hospital computer systems.
