Important work for tax conference committee

I am writing in regards to HR 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. I am horrified that the U.S. Senate passed its version of the bill without giving members of the Senate adequate time to read and analyze the bill text.

The amendments agreed to on the Senate floor did little to address the $1.5 trillion increase in the deficit. The Senate rejected an amendment to make the individual tax cuts permanent. Furthermore, the Senate approved questionable amendments such as allowing 529 savings plans to be used for K-12 private school tuition.

Rep. Peter Roskam has been selected to participate in the conference committee for this bill. I urge him to fight for his constituents by making the bill revenue neutral (at a minimum) and shifting the benefits of the bill toward working-class and marginalized Americans.
