Ex-Columbus pastor gets 3 years on opioid-related charges

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - A former southern Indiana church pastor has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting charges in what prosecutors say was a scheme faking a burglary of his home in order to pay an opioid drug debt.

Thirty-eight-year-old Justin White of Camby learned his sentence Friday after pleading guilty to two felony counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for inducing a 16-year-old youth to deal in hydrocodone and oxycontin.

The Republic reports White received a three-year prison sentence on one count and four years on the second count, which was suspended.

White was pastor of First Christian Church in Columbus when his house was burglarized last December. He resigned as pastor in March.

He has said his opioid addiction started with a prescription for headaches.
