Colliers International Chicago Participates in Habitat for Humanity Women Build Event for Second Year

Colliers International | Chicago is pleased to announce 24 women recently participated in the 2017 Women Build event and raised nearly $9,000 for Habitat for Humanity Chicago. Women Build is a five-day build - from October 3-7 - that brings together a community of more than 300 women together in teams to build and fund the home of a woman-led Habitat homebuyer family.

"This is the second year Colliers Chicago has participated, and we are so proud to be part of such an empowering event," said senior associate Amy Sullivan, who served as a Colliers team captain and is also a board member for Habitat Chicago. "We have an overwhelming response of women who want to participate, and we look forward to continuing our partnership in years to come."

At 11937 South Union Avenue in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood, the two Colliers teams helped paint, tile and lay flooring for soon-to-be homeowner Darlene Duke, a single mother of two daughters and grandmother to four. One of her daughters, Toya, has Chronic Lupus, making a comfortable home all that much more important.

"I am building and buying this home for my grandbaby who will be living in the new home with me," said Duke. "And I am doing this for [my daughter] Toya, so that if [her] Lupus ever gets that bad again, she will have a comfortable place to go. Owning my own home means so much to me. We've worked hard to get to this point. We've come so far."

The mission of Women Build is to significantly advance construction on the Women Build and neighboring homes; raise the funds needed to construct the home; and raise awareness of Habitat Chicago mission and challenges women are vulnerable to in obtaining and maintaining decent housing.
