Rolling Hills in neighborhood profile

In 1995, Marne and Mitchell Klinski bought their first home and moved to the Rolling Hills subdivision in Buffalo Grove. They loved the neighborhood so much that later, when they needed more room for their growing family, they stayed in Rolling Hills when buying their second home.

"This is a great house with a lot of space," Marne Klinski said. "We have five bedrooms and three full baths upstairs, a full finished basement with a bathroom, sunroom and tons of storage. And we live on a beautiful two-thirds-acre lot that backs up to Long Grove."

What's Klinski's favorite room in the house? "We spend a lot of time in the kitchen; the whole family centers around the kitchen. And it's a nice big room with tons of cabinets."

The couple was also drawn to the subdivision because of its excellent schools, convenient location and many nearby amenities.

"We love being down the street from the best restaurants -- Wildfire, Cheesecake, Kona Grill -- and the convenience of the shopping. And I love being within walking distance of Walgreens and Starbucks and close to Sunset Foods. I feel like I'm in the middle of everything," Klinski said.

"This is a great family neighborhood. The park district is great. And we love Buffalo Grove."

Located between Route 83 and Milwaukee Avenue off Aptakisic Road and west of Buffalo Grove Road, Rolling Hills is a very desirable subdivision that offers a variety of home styles, including some contemporary and prairie-style designs. Floor plans typically feature at least four bedrooms, 2½ baths or more and a two- or three-car garage.

"Rolling Hills is a wonderful family community with its own park and playground. It has a nice friendly atmosphere with people outside walking their dogs and visiting with neighbors," said Sadie Winter, real estate broker with RE/MAX Suburban in Buffalo Grove. Winter and her associate, Dana Cohen, work as a team.

Rolling Hills is a prestigious subdivision with several custom homes, tree-lined streets and sidewalks. Some houses back to wooded, open areas. When houses are on the market, they see a quick turnaround, Winter said.

For recreation, the Buffalo Grove Park District offers many amenities including a state-of-the-art fitness center, skate park and the Happy Tails dog park, which receives rave reviews from residents. The park district also offers a variety of programs and classes for every member of the family, such as an annual dog show, fishing derby and movies under the stars.

Golfers can play their game at the Arboretum Club, which is owned and operated by the village and features a clubhouse, pro shop, snack shop and bar and restaurant, along with a professional staff.

Residents who like being involved with the community have several groups from which to choose, including the Buffalo Grove Garden Club, dedicated to gardening, flower arranging and community beautification. The group has planted and maintained five gardens throughout the village.

Many community events bring residents together, such as Buffalo Grove Days, a five-day community picnic that draws people from all around. The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band performs classical, Broadway, jazz and pop for audiences, and the Buffalo Grove Fine Art Festival features more than 100 artists at the Town Center.

Dotted with forest preserves and natural areas, Buffalo Grove offers a bit of a country atmosphere along with convenient shopping, dining, culture and entertainment.
