Cooper's Hawk to open May 15 in St. Charles, more planned

Editor's note: This story has been updated to correct that Cooper's Hawk in St. Charles will open on May 15.

Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant plans to hire about 200 workers and open May 15 in St. Charles, while more restaurants are planned through next year, the company's chief executive said Thursday.

St. Charles has been on the company's radar for “a few years,” CEO Tim McEnery said.

“I was in the area a few years ago for an event and was driving around and just felt St. Charles would be a good spot for a restaurant. It was an underserved area with restaurants and it just felt right,” McEnery said.

The growing Countryside-based chain, which offers its own brand of wines that can be matched with an entree, operates eight Illinois locations including in South Barrington, Naperville, Arlington Heights and Wheeling.

The eatery is expected to enliven the former Charlestowne Mall and add a much-needed economic boost to the region.

“We welcome the additional economic activity to the east side and look forward to having Cooper's Hawk as a partner in the revitalization of the former Charlestowne Mall, now The Quad of St. Charles,” St. Charles Mayor Raymond Rogina said in a statement.

In addition, McEnery said a restaurant will open next week in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, making it the 28th location nationwide.

McEnery said another will open in Oak Park later this summer and one in Reston, Virginia, in the fall. He plans three more next year in Florida, another in Cleveland, Ohio, and possibly two more in the Chicago suburbs.

Besides Florida and Illinois, restaurants are in Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.
