Principal named for Des Plaines elementary school

The Des Plaines Elementary School District 62 board has approved the appointment of Denise Fernandez as the principal of North Elementary School.

Fernandez, whose career in education spans over 30 years, was named interim principal last July following Howard Coleman's resignation.

She began teaching at the high school level in Villa Park, then taught for over 20 years at the junior high level in Schaumburg while also holding a variety of leadership positions.

Fernandez most recently served as the assistant principal at Chippewa Middle School for the last eight years.
