Two more people face ID theft charges in Deer Park Apple store theft

Lake County authorities arrested two more people over the weekend on allegations they tried to fraudulently obtain merchandise from the Apple store in Deer Park, the 15th and 16th such arrests in the past eight months.

Sterling L. Kimbrough, 21, and Zavonnti Glasker, 22, both from Detroit, face felony charges of burglary and identity theft after their arrests Saturday, authorities said.

Officials said the two entered the store at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday and attempted to open Apple accounts using identities of other people to buy merchandise.

Both are being held in Lake County jail on $150,000 bail pending court appearances Wednesday. If convicted of burglary, they would face a maximum three to seven years in prison.

Their arrests came three days after two men were charged with trying to fraudulently exchange broken phones for new phones at the same Apple store, authorities said. Mohammed Hosein, 23, of Detroit, and Wen Jie Qin, 21, of San Francisco, are charged with felony burglary and retail theft for their role in the scam, authorities said.

Between July and January, the Lake County sheriff's office arrested nine New York residents and three Michigan residents accused of committing high-value thefts through deception at Apple stores. The sheriff's department said it is conducting increased patrols near the store.
