Elk Grove holding discussion on minimum wage, sick leave laws

Elk Grove Village is holding a public round-table discussion Thursday about whether to opt out of a Cook County laws increasing the minimum wage to $13 per hour by 2020 and requiring employers to offer five days of paid sick leave annually.

The home-rule community can opt out of the county ordinances before the laws go into effect July 1.

Businesses in the village have reached out to officials with concerns about the ordinances, according to a village news release.

The village wants to hear from residents about positives and negatives of the ordinances, officials said. Village officials invited guests to speak about the challenges and benefits.

The discussion is 4 p.m. Thursday in the council chambers, 901 Wellington Ave. EGTV Channel 6 and egtv.viebit.com will show the discussion.
