Naperville educator named to state board by Rauner

A former Naperville Unit District 203 assistant superintendent was named to the Illinois State Board of Education by Gov. Bruce Rauner Friday.

The governor's office noted in a news release that Ruth Cross, of Naperville, will "bring more than three decades of experience as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and educational consultant to the board."

She is the mother of former House Republican Leader Tom Cross of Oswego.

Ruth Cross currently works to coordinate social and emotional learning in school programs with the organization CASEL and the DuPage Regional Office of Education and consults with Chicago Public Schools. She previously worked as a principal within the school district.

Cross received a bachelor's degree from St. Xavier College and a master's degree from Governors State University.
