Bus clips child in shoulder near Lake Villa

A 5-year-old student from Lake Villa Community Consolidated District 41 was clipped by the tail end of a turning school bus Thursday afternoon in an unincorporated area near Lake Villa, Lake County officials say.

Lake County Sheriff's officials were called at 3:38 p.m. to the intersection of North Terry Drive East and West Terry Drive South, said Sgt. Chris Covelli.

A school bus driven by a 25-year-old West Chicago man had just dropped off students from Thompson Elementary School near that intersection and was making a left turn onto North Terry Drive East, Covelli said.

"As the driver was making the left turn, the rear passenger side of the school bus struck a 5-year-old student, who had just deboarded, in the left shoulder," he said.

The injured child was treated at the scene and released. The bus did have other children on board, but none were injured, he said.

No tickets have been issued, and the crash remains under investigation, Covelli said.
