Voters in six DuPage County townships said yes to consolidating mosquito abatement.

The nonbinding question in Addison, Bloomingdale, Downers Grove, Lisle, Winfield and York townships asked whether voters want the county's 40 mosquito abatement contracts to be consolidated into nine -- one handled by each township. Three townships -- Milton, Naperville and Wayne -- did not put the referendum question on the ballot.

Results were strongly in favor of consolidation, which means discussions likely will take place at the municipal and township level about forming intergovernmental agreements to begin combining mosquito treatment contracts.

Vote totals in each township ranged from 88 percent to 91 percent in favor of consolidation, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's election.
