When John Gage settled in Gages Lake in 1836, he helped set a foundation for the area to become a resort destination years later, featuring hotels, camps, and guesthouses.

During the turn of the century Gages Lake was a popular destination for families to stay during the summer, affording them the opportunity to escape the summer heat in Chicago.

Gages Lake has maintained its small-town feel despite being nestled between the expanding Villages of Grayslake and Gurnee in Lake County.

The 128-acre sized Gages Lake, a Natural Freshwater Lake, provides a peaceful sanctuary to area residents affording a smaller boat environment for water sports. The average depth of the lake is eight feet and has a maximum depth at 55.00 feet in certain spots.

Anglers at Gages Lake have an opportunity to catch a variety of fish including Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Carp, Channel Catfish, Muskie and Northern Pike.
