Batavia alderman sworn in, but another may resign

Batavia has gained a new alderman, but it has lost another one.

The mayor swore in Scott Salvati as the new 1st Ward alderman Tuesday at a special city council meeting.

Salvati replaces Carl Fischer, who resigned. Fischer moved out of town.

"It's a servant-leader role," Salvati said, of how he intends to act. He will serve through the end of April, when Fischer's term expires.

But it was also revealed that 3rd Ward Alderman Kyle Hohmann now intends to resign.

Mayor Jeff Schielke said Hohmann has told him he intends to resign at the Nov. 7 city council meeting. Schielke said he has not received a resignation letter from Hohmann, however.

Hohmann's term expires in April.

He did not attend Tuesday's council and committee-of-the-whole meetings and could not be reached for comment.

Hohmann had previously said he did not intend to run for re-election.

The Kane County Recorder of Deeds website indicate Hohmann and his wife recently sold their home and purchased another property in Batavia but not in the 3rd Ward.
