Dog killed in Geneva house fire

A family dog was killed in a fire that caused severe damage to a Geneva home Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The owners returned home to discover the blaze on the 700 block of Redwing Drive and called 911 at 1:53 p.m.

Firefighters encountered thick, dark smoke pouring out of the two-story house, with heavy fire visible in the rear of the home. Crews had the blaze under control by 2:36 p.m., Geneva fire officials said in a news release.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home was left uninhabitable.
