Democrat Randy Hopp, left, and Republican Douglas Scheflow are candidates for District 22 of the Kane County Board.

We endorsed Republican Doug Scheflow, an Elgin attorney, in the 2012 Republican primary, which he won, but not in the general, which he also won to start his tenure on the county board. He favors development of the Longmeadow Parkway extension and bridge in Carpentersville as well as development of a portion of the Settler's Hill landfill near Geneva. He is running for a second term against Elgin retiree Randy Hopp, who has issues with both projects. We remain skeptical of Hopp's ability to serve. For much of his tenure as a Gail Borden Library trustee he was banned from the library -- and other institutions -- for his abusive behavior toward Gail Borden staffers. Scheflow is endorsed.
