Illinois has numerous airports and many are located near Chicago, including O'Hare, Midway, DuPage, Chicago Executive, Aurora Municipal, Waukegan Regional and Lake in the Hills.
We take a look back at some photos from the 1970s through the 1990s, which include aerials, new terminals being built at DuPage Airport and O'Hare International Airport, and the air traffic control strike of the 1980s.
O'Hare has been known as the busiest airport in the world and is a major hub of American and United Airlines. DuPage Airport in West Chicago has grown through the years. A new terminal was built there in 1992. In 2015, DuPage was named Illinois Reliever Airport of the Year.
