Yard signs, did we lose the meaning?

It's that time of year again when political yard signs propagate faster than dandelions. Have we lost the meaning of the term "yard sign"? Yard signs signify that a candidate has earned your vote and you advocate for them by placing a sign on your lawn, hence the name.

However, when I drive around western Lake County, I see patterns of laziness. Instead of candidates going door to door canvassing and garnering support, candidates or their supporters now just plop sign anywhere and everywhere. Isn't that a total disregard of local ordinances that prohibit the placement of signs in rights of way or on public lands?

We should be asking ourselves, if candidates cannot get their yard signs on a "lawn" and disregard local ordinances, then how can we expect them to legislate or govern? Pure laziness on the part of the candidate and their campaign.
