Endorsements: Christensen, Johnson for McHenry County Board, District 3
McHenry County Board incumbent Michael Walkup is running for county board chairman, a position without a vote. That's why the Crystal Lake Republican also seeks re-election to his District 3 seat. Democratic opponent Kathleen Bergan Schmidt argues that "two-for-one office seeking goes against the intent of voters," and we strongly agree.
That leaves Schmidt, fellow Democrat Diane Johnson and Republican Christopher Christensen competing for two seats. Schmidt served on the board from 2008 to 2012 and entered the race just last month, when candidate Kenneth Miller died suddenly. Christensen, recently appointed to fill a board vacancy, comes to the job with a long list of past civic involvements, including as a member of Cary Elementary District 26 school board. Likewise, Johnson has 20 years of experience as a member and past president of the Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 school board. They each offer ideas for expanding development, building a skilled labor force and making the board more transparent. Both Christensen and Johnson would bring professionalism and an emphasis on collaboration to the board, and they earn our endorsement.
