Endorsement: Barber, Barnes in McHenry Board District 1
Voters in the McHenry County Board's District 1, which encompasses the populous southeastern corner of the county, have the fortunate choice between four qualified and able candidates to fill two board seats at stake in next month's election. Two stand out, though. We endorse incumbent Republican Yvonne Barnes of Cary, the board's current vice chairman, who has an appealing mix of institutional knowledge, government experience and forward-thinking ideas for dealing with the county's issues. We also endorse Democrat Kerri Barber, a marketing consultant from Cary, who advocates a reasonable approach to lowering government costs and attracting new business without excessive cuts to necessary services or enormous incentives. Republican Tom Wilbeck of Barrington Hills and Democrat Kathryn Potter of Cary also are capable options for voters.
