Waubonsie comedy explores the subject of astrology

Waubonsie Valley High School Theatre presents "You Were Born on a Rotten Day" by Christopher Serge as its first main stage production of the season.

The show will be staged at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 27 to 29, in the auditorium, 2590 Ogden Ave., Aurora.

A spoof on astrology, the play is set in Galileo High School, where an unexpected astrologer is pretending to be someone else. He is trying to get adequate funds to equip his classroom, but can't.

In the disguise of an outrageous astrologer, the mystery person rediscovers that the world is his, along with the girl he cares about, if he'll just remain an astrologer. Colin Rhoades plays the astrologer.

The show was chosen because director Dave Calvert had not explored the topic of astrology for more than 20 years and the show has a large cast that gives an opportunity for many students to participate.

The subject matter is challenging because not many people are informed enough to get all of the astrology vs. astronomy jokes and references.

Tickets are $7 for students and $9 for adults. They can be purchased at wvhs.ipsd.org or at the door.
