Construction of assisted living building in Des Plaines delayed

A Des Plaines business owner is seeking a one-year extension of city council approval for his proposed five-story, 68-unit assisted living and memory care building south of downtown.

Edward Soske told city officials he needs the extra time to secure equity funding to build the 65,308-square-foot building at 959-997 Lee St., which received a conditional use permit and height variation in October 2015. The project was first approved in 2012, but financing dried up and the approval expired.

Aldermen voted 5-2 Monday to table a vote until the next meeting Nov. 7, when they hope to talk to Soske in person.
