Music notes: Green Day plays rescheduled show at Aragon

Welcome to Paradise

California punk rockers Green Day have made some changes since the band first formed in 1986 and the trio busted out with the major-label debut “Dookie” in 1994. The band has embraced the poppier nature of radio and co-created an award-winning Broadway musical. Plus, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has traded in some of his punk stripes for parenthood and is starring in the recently released movie “Ordinary World.” But the band's live performances are still some of the most fun I've ever seen. Green Day postponed the first few shows of the tour supporting the new album “Revolution Radio” because of illness, but tickets will be honored for the rescheduled show this weekend. 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago. $157-$319. (773) 561-9500 or aragonballroom.org.

Progtoberfest returns

Reggies is bringing back some of the best in progressive rock, fusion and jazz art rock for Progtoberfest II. The three-day fest features 27 bands on two stages in the club. Headliners include The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra and Brand X leading the charge Friday, Rikard Sjoblom and The Security Project Saturday and The Reign of Kindo and Carl Palmer Sunday. Be sure to give some love to local musicians at the fest, like the Paul Mutzabaugh Quintet, Zip Tang, Mano, Pavlov(3), The Chinese Professionals, General Zod and the Aurora- and Naperville-based Riddle House. 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21; 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22; and 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Reggies, 2105 S. State St., Chicago. $75 per day or $150 for a three-day pass; VIP packages available. (312) 949-0120 or reggieslive.com.

Punks on tour

Toronto punk band Like Pacific has brought together an international cast of players for its “Distant Like You Asked Tour,” featuring Virginia-native punk rockers Broadside (touring in support of their album “Old Bones”; they have a new one due out in early 2017), Rarity (from Hamilton, Canada), U.K.-based Boston Manor and Chicago's own Belmont (with members from Vernon Hills and Glenview). Catch the tour when it passes through Logan Square restaurant/coffee house/music venue Township. 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Township, 2200 N. California Ave., Chicago. $12-$15. Dark house

The masked Parisian music producer Malaa and Canadian DJ Rezz team up to bring their “Lunatic Tour” to Chicago for a late-night show at Concord Music Hall. Bentley Dean, a Birmingham, U.K., native who grew up in Naperville and Hinsdale, opens the show with his trademark work — enveloping, moody melodies that draw you deep into the darker and more thoughtful side of electronic music. 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Concord Music Hall, 2014 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. $20-$23. (773) 570-4000 or concordmusichall.com.

Small-town boy

John Mellencamp, the Indiana-raised, authority-fighting Rock and Roll Hall of Famer whose restless brand of Heartland rock made up a big chunk of the soundtrack of my youth, brings his hits such as “Jack & Diane,” “Pink Houses” and the Grammy-winning “Hurts So Good” to the Chicago Theatre. Catch him Tuesday on his intimate “Plain Spoken Tour.” 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State St., Chicago. $59.50-$129.50. (312) 462-6300 or thechicagotheatre.com.

Went Insane
