Endorsement: Paxton in Lake County Board District 4
Two well-qualified and dedicated candidates are vying for election in Lake County District 4, which includes much of Beach Park, Wadsworth, Winthrop Harbor and Zion. Incumbent Republican Brent Paxton of Zion and Democrat John Idleburg of Zion agree property taxes are the biggest issue in the district and both say finding a way to encourage economic development is key. Paxton says the county needs to focus on core issues like roads and the jail, while Idleburg would like to see more services for veterans and seniors as well as better public transportation in District 4. We sympathize with those needs, but give the edge to Paxton for a focus on the bottom line that helped Lake County weather the recession in good financial shape.
