Mental health money would have been helpful
We were extremely disappointed to learn that the Grand Victoria Riverboat Grant Committee eliminated $178,000 from their approval of the recommendations to the Kane County Board.
This money was needed for mental health in the criminal justice system. The program has been successful elsewhere in reducing recidivism. This is a much wiser use of our tax dollars than continually arresting, releasing and re-arresting individuals.
We sincerely hope that the county board will reconsider this issue and reinstate the $178,000 the mental health budget item.
