Western Indiana man charged in fire death of girlfriend
WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. (AP) - A western Indiana has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of arson for allegedly killing his on-again, off-again girlfriend inside her burning home.
Thirty-three-year-old Scottie Kincade of Williamsport was charged Friday in Warren Circuit Court in the slaying of 31-year-old Heather Smith of Williamsport.
Firefighters discovered Smith's badly burned body Tuesday afternoon. A probable cause affidavit states that Smith died from inhaling super-heated air and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Court records say Smith planned to move to Kansas in December to start a new life.
Kincade was arrested Wednesday at the home of a friend who called police. An affidavit says he earlier had confessed to killing Smith to his brother.
A message seeking comment was left for an attorney for Kincade.
