'Coats for Vets' drive underway

Libertyville Rotary Sunrise has teamed up with Zengeler Cleaners' two Libertyville stores for their annual "Coats for Vets" drive to collect winter coats, jackets and other seasonal apparel for veterans throughout the northern Illinois area.

"Weather in the Midwest is always challenging, especially during the fall and winter months," said Tom Zengeler, president of Zengeler Cleaners. "This is a particularly challenging time for many veterans having difficulty finding meaningful work. Members of Libertyville Rotary Sunrise have taken up the cause because they - and we - understand it's our job to support them."

All types of clothing and accessories are needed during the drive, including blankets, gloves, hats and other seasonal apparel, in addition to coats and jackets.

Donations will be accepted through Oct. 31. They can be given to any member of Libertyville Rotary Sunrise, or dropped off at either of Zengeler Cleaners two Libertyville stores - 539 E. Park Ave. and 1401 Peterson Road - the official collection locations for the 2016 drive. Once donations are gathered, the Zengeler team will inspect, repair as needed and clean every item, then deliver the renewed items to the VA Hospital in time for Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
