Surprising Alaves beats Granada 2-1 in Spanish league

MADRID (AP) - Promoted Alaves continued its surprising campaign back in the first division, beating Granada 3-1 on Monday to stay in the top half of the Spanish league standings.

Edgar Mendez scored in the 52nd minute, Victor Camarasa added another in the 66th and Brazilian striker Deyverson sealed the victory in injury time to leave the hosts in ninth place with nine points, five less than leader Real Madrid.

Ukranian forward Artem Kravetsgive scored in the 78th for winless Granada, which remains second-to-last in the 20-team standings with two points. Osasuna, another team promoted this season, is the only other team without a win after six rounds.

Alaves, which defeated Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the third round, is playing in the top flight for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
