Carpentersville fatal armed robbery suspect arrested in Missouri

A man wanted in a fatal armed robbery of a Carpentersville computer repair shop in early September has been arrested in Missouri, authorities said.

Bobby Heard, 32, of Chicago, faces charges of felony murder and armed robbery and was arrested Thursday by the U.S. Marshal Service, according to the Kane County state's attorney's office.

A warrant for Heard's arrest was issued Sept. 17 and his bail has been set at $3 million.

Authorities say Heard and Kenyon Slater, 37, of Chicago, both armed with handguns, entered Oscarin's computer store in Carpentersville the night of Sept. 7 and restrained the manager and another employee.

Heard and Slater demanded money and took electronic equipment and cash, authorities said. The store employee freed himself, grabbed his gun and fatally shot Slater in the parking lot. Heard fled in a car being driven by the final suspect in the robbery.

Under Illinois law, a defendant can be charged with murder if a death results in the commission of a forcible, violent felony.

Heard faces 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted. He was being held at the Green County jail in Springfield, Missouri. An extradition date has not been set.

Anyone with information on the final suspect should call Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Paul Brandt at (224) 293-1676.
