Wonder Lake man accused in fatal DUI crash in Antioch

A man has been charged in a DUI-related motorcycle crash in Antioch that killed his passenger, authorities said.

Gary L. Rogers, 46, of the 5000 block of Hilltop Drive in Wonder Lake, was trying to turn his motorcycle left onto Route 59 from westbound Route 173 when he struck the concrete curb at the traffic light island at 1:54 p.m. July 4, authorities said.

The crash seriously injured passenger Traci L. Dotson, 45, authorities said. She was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by helicopter and later died.

An investigation by Antioch police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team determined Rogers was operating the motorcycle with a blood-alcohol level in excess of the .08 limit, authorities said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Rogers one week ago. He turned himself in to police Wednesday.

Rogers was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death and reckless homicide. If found guilty, he can be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison.

Rogers was released from Lake County jail after posting the required 10 percent of his $100,000 bail.

He is due back in court Oct. 5.
