Avon Twp. supervisor wants to reverse pay hike approval
Avon Township Supervisor Lisa Rusch says regrets over casting a tiebreaking vote to boost most elected officials' salaries have led her to seek a do-over.
Rusch said she'll ask the township board next month to rescind Monday's vote in favor of the pay hikes that would be effective after a new set of officials is seated after the 2017 election.
She said she had a restless night after breaking a 2-all tie to approve the raises during an Avon Township board meeting Monday. Rusch said she thought more about the township's finances before deciding to ask for a do-over on the raises.
“We are working with a very, very, very low budget,” Rusch said Thursday.
Under the plan, the annual pay of the township highway commissioner would go from $55,673 to $70,000 in the first year. The supervisor's pay would go from $55,673 to $60,000.
Trustee pay would go from $2,372 to $2,400 and the clerk's pay from $20,991 to $23,000. The assessor's pay would drop from $62,000 to $60,000.
Avon Township has a 2016-17 budget of $1.1 million for corporate, assessor and general assistance purposes. The road district's budget is $1.4 million.
Township boundaries include Grayslake, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Park, Round Lake Heights, Hainesville and Third Lake.
