U-46 hosting academy open houses next week

Elgin Area Unit School District U-46 will host a series of open houses next week at its five high schools to highlight the district's academy programs which offer high school students an opportunity to focus on specific areas of interest as they prepare for college and careers.

Academy Open Houses are designed for middle school students and their parents to learn more about each academy as well as the application process for the selective programs. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. and repeat at 8:15 p.m. at each U-46 high school on Tuesday, Sept. 20 and Thursday, Sept. 22.

The five academies focus on: Science, Engineering and High Technology (Bartlett High School); Gifted and Talented (Elgin High School); Visual and Performing Arts (Larkin High School); Broadcast, Education and Communication Networks (South Elgin High School); and World Languages and International Studies (Streamwood High School).

Completed academy applications can be submitted starting Tuesday, and are due on or before 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. For more information on the application process or to fill out the online application, visit www.u-46.org and click on Departments and Programs and select High School Academies.
