Palatine store punished for selling drug paraphernalia

A Palatine convenience store will have to shut down for five days this month and pay a fine after the village ruled it sold bongs, glass pipes and other drug paraphernalia.

Village Manager Reid Ottesen said Quick Stop Convenience Store, which is at Palatine Road and Linden Avenue, will have to shut down for five consecutive days before Sept. 30.

“They have to let the village attorney know what those days will be so we can go by and make sure they are closed,” said Ottesen after the village council meeting.

The store will also have to pay a $500 fine plus court fees.

A Quick Stop employee said Monday night that the store's owner would not be immediately available for comment.

According to Palatine documents, a village representative saw drug paraphernalia being sold at the store on two occasions in July.

Ottesen said Monday night that the store stopped selling the drug paraphernalia soon after the village ordered the owner to attend the disciplinary hearing.

According to village code, any store that sells drug paraphernalia is considered a public nuisance.
