Aurora man charged with 6th DUI

An Aurora man has been charged with his sixth DUI arrest after a traffic stop earlier this year, according to Kane County court records.

Roberto H. Patino, 44, of the 500 block of East Galena Boulevard, was recently indicted by a Kane County grand jury for felony aggravated DUI, which is punishable by six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation.

Patino was pulled over at 1:29 a.m. May 9 for speeding near Farnsworth and Scheffer Roads in Aurora, according to police and court records.

Police found semi-full beer cans in his white 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup, he admitted he did not have a driver's license and smelled of alcohol, Aurora Police Lt. Jeff Wiencek said.

Patino refused field sobriety tests and was charged with misdemeanor DUI, transportation of open alcohol, driving without a license and speeding, Wiencek said.

The grand jury's charging document indicates Patino has five previous DUI arrests. Information about each was not immediately available, and court records do not indicate any arrests in Kane County beyond the May 9 arrest.

Patino, who is free on bond and has missed court appearances in June and July, is next due in court Sept. 21.
