Metra taking public comments on policy tweaks

Metra commuters can comment Wednesday on a proposal allowing the transit agency to institute minor service increases on routes with limited trains, such as the Heritage Corridor, without having to conduct detailed studies.

The hearing runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the railroad's office at 547 Jackson Blvd., Chicago.

Metra is adjusting the definitions of "major service changes" that trigger studies where planners examine if there are any negative effects for disadvantaged communities. The intent is to allow the railroad to make minor service increases without having to perform costly analyses.

Metra will continue to carry out equity analyses if service on a train line is decreased.

Public comments will also be accepted online until Friday. For more information, go to https://metrarail.com/.
