Boys soccer: Larkin, South Elgin earn tournament titles
Memo Varges scored the game's only goal Saturday as the Larkin boys soccer team defeated Huntley 1-0 to win the Huntley tournament.
Sammy Rodriguez provided the assist for the Royals (3-4) and Jorge Nava had 7 saves to record the shutout.
Earlier in the day, Larkin beat Von Steuben 3-2. Rodriguez and Chris Plantz scored goals and Bryan Aredondo had 6 saves in goal.
Huntley (3-3) won its first game of the day 3-2 over Woodstock as Aaron Ruffner scored twice, Luke Loprieno once and Michael Parks and Andrew Fulcer combined for 7 saves in goal.
Parks also had 7 saves against Larkin.
At Lake Park: South Elgin defeated St. Francis 7-0 to win the Lake Park tournament. AJ Kirkby, Javier Lujan and Derek Baker scored 2 goals each for the Storm (5-1) while Eduardo Carrillo added a goal. Brian Dykstra recorded the shutout in goal.
Rockford Boylan 2, Streamwood 1: Rafa Gil scored off an assist from Bryan Mora for Streamwood's goal in this Barrington tournament game. Daniel Dominguez had 6 saves in goal for the Sabres (3-2-1).
Jacobs 1, St. Charles North 1: Also at the Barrington tournament, Colin Walsh scored Jacobs' goal and Ethan Pickering had 4 saves for the Golden Eagles (2-2-1).
Sandburg 3, Bartlett 2: Julio Diaz and Rudy Reyes scored goals for Bartlett (0-4-1), which lost this Naperville Central tournament game in PKs.
Geneva 1, St. Ignatius 1: Eric Anderson scored the goal for Geneva (1-4-1) at the Hinsdale Central tournament.
Dundee-Crown 3, Hoffman Estates 2: Julian Ajroja, Ivan Aviles and Brian Madrid scored goals for the Chargers in this nonconference win. Luis Cruz had 4 saves in goal for D-C (4-2).
