Palatine mayor to seek third term

Jim Schwantz announced Friday via Facebook that he intends to seek a third term as mayor of Palatine.

Schwantz said in an interview he decided to run again because he has found the role to be fulfilling and because he thinks he is doing a solid job.

"I always have been a simple judge of things; if the good outweighs the bad I'll continue to do it," Schwantz said."I really enjoy being mayor, I enjoy representing the village of Palatine," Schwantz said.

The period to begin circulating nomination petitions for candidates seeking office in the April 4, 2017, consolidated election began Wednesday. Schwantz said it was important for him to begin circulating petitions early because, if there are five or more candidates, a primary election would be held on Feb. 28.

Schwantz said when he ran the first time he began campaigning 13 months ahead of the election.

Schwantz said he didn't know if anyone else in the village intended to run for mayor. Nomination filing paperwork is due the week of Nov. 21.
