Join 'Backpacking Overnight' at Waterfall Glen

Go on an overnight backpacking adventure with a ranger at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's upcoming Backpacking Overnight program.

Check-in starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, and activities run through 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Waterfall Glen in Darien.

Bring a tent and sleeping bag, and learn how to pack for a trip. Then take a five-mile hike, set up camp and make a backcountry meal before hitting the sack. The program is for ages 12 and older and costs $75 per person for ages 18 and older and $60 per person for ages 12 to 17. Register online or at (630) 933-7248.

Backpacks are available to use during the program, and any equipment that is too bulky to carry can be stored in a district vehicle until needed. A complete packing list is available after registration.

"I wanted to do this program because I enjoy backpacking and wanted to provide people with an easy introduction to this popular activity," ranger Sarah Rosenberg said.

"This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about backpack traveling and experience Waterfall Glen at night," said Forest Preserve District Commissioner Linda Painter, District 3.
