Flash flood warning for Northwest suburbs, McHenry County

A flash flood warning has been issued for some Northwest and Kane County suburbs, and another one was issued for an area that includes southwestern McHenry County.

The first warning, which lasts until 9 p.m., includes the following towns:

• Arlington Heights

• Elgin

• Schaumburg

• Palatine

• Des Plaines

• Mount Prospect

• Rolling Meadows

• Barrington

• Elmhurst

• Buffalo Grove

• Carol Stream

• Carpentersville

• Wheeling

• Addison

• Algonquin

• Roselle

• Lake Zurich

• Long Grove

• Franklin Park

A band of slow moving storms has already produced more than two inches of rain in some areas, with more rain expected.

A second warning lasts until 11 p.m., with 1.5 to 3 inches of rain already falling in some areas including the Addams Tollway between mile marks 41 and 60, and towns like Marengo and Genoa.

The National Weather Service warns against driving into flooded areas. "Most flood deaths occur in vehicles," it says.
