Man charged with DUI after crash injures seven children

A drunken driving suspect from Lombard was ordered held on $50,000 bail Monday after his car struck a vehicle carrying seven children late Sunday night.

Austin Hall, 28, was charged with aggravated DUI, a felony punishable by up to three years in prison. Probation is also an option.

Hall was making a left turn about 11 p.m. Sunday onto Busse Road in Elk Grove Village when his car struck the other vehicle head-on, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Mennie.

The children, whose ages were not available, were treated for cuts and bruises and released from Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Mennie said. He did not know if the children's driver was injured.

Hall was injured and was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where a blood test revealed a blood-alcohol content of .249, Mennie said.

Hall was driving on a suspended license at the time of the accident, Mennie said.

According to Mennie, Hall has three cases pending in DuPage County: violation of probation related to a retail theft conviction; domestic battery and domesticated battery in conjunction with a DUI.

Hall's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 15.
